Bart Roeffen

Bart Roeffen will be posting on behalf of DeltaSync, in which he takes the positions of architect and digital director.
DeltaSync is an architecture and engineering company that specializes in floating edifices. It was founded after writing an award winning paper that described a vision of a future floating city. The project was inspired by a concept coined by Frits Schoute.
In the Netherlands DeltaSync takes part in important innitiatives for developing water technology. Abroad, it is currently in the run for a place on the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

Ties Rijcken

Ties Rijcken has entered the world of floating buildings more than six years ago. He worked for a houseboat company, travelled three continents for photographic studies of floating villages and mentored many students in their projects about floating buildings. He regularly writes on the topic (in scientific and popular media), gives interviews and presentations and he designs, mostly in the conceptual domain. Also linked to http://www.d.efac.to, office for architecture and urbanism, he advises the Dutch Steering Committee for Experiments in Public Housing (SEV) on water related buildings and is coordinator of master students graduation studio Building in Water (BiWa) at Delft University of Technology. His latest ideas will appear in ARCAM's book (see ecoboat articlette), and his impressions of floating villages around the world will be published by publisher http://www.uitgeverijderepubliek.nl very soon.

Charlie

Charlie Minter is the webmaster of ecoboot.nl together with Frits Schoute and Bjorn Wijers. Being the webmaster generally means: adding new articles, thinking about new functions on the website and making sure that everything works fine. In the meantime he is studying his bachelors in architecture at the TU Delft. In July, he will enter a competition organised by the European Waterpark Association and Koelnmesse, for designing something that has something to do with waterspheres. Of course this sounds quite vague, but around July/August you will see what this vagueness turned into on ecoboot.nl

Frits

Ecoboat (Ecoboot, in Dutch) was launched in the farewell speech by Frits Schoute, when he retired as Telecom Professor from the TU Delft on September 1st, 2000. Telecom was so far ahead of the needs of the people, whereas the need for more space, more sustainable energy and water for the ever growing population of our metropolises became more and more distressing. This is how the site http://www.ecoboot.nl came into existence. His farewell speech (in Dutch) can be found below. On this site you can find several contributions of students and other concerned persons about the idea of starting a floating life.
