Het Nederlandse architectenbureau, D.EFAC.TO architectuur en stedenbouw, heeft onlangs een innovatief designproduct ontwikkeld ter bescherming van burgers voor overstromingen; het Save House. Save Houses hebben een dubbele gebruikersfunctie en kunnen in het dagelijks leven gebruikt worden als tuinhuis, fietsenberging, theehuis of gastenverblijf terwijl het Save House tijdens overstromingen dient als veilige haven.

During my visit this summer in the USA, I went to New Orleans for a couple of days. New Orleans has always been very well known for its lively music scene, its beautiful French (actually Spanish architecture) District, its rough harbour-image and its Cajun kitchen. Since 2005 New Orleans is well known for something else: Hurricane Katrina.
In august 2005 hurricane Katrina struck the coastline of Alabama en Louisiana. Great damage was done by the wind, but even more by the floods that were a result of the storm, and the fact that large parts of the city are below sea-level, behind the levees. 80% of New Orleans was flooded.

Na het winnen van de NCRV klimaatshow in December 2007, is DeltaSync uitgenodigd voor het Global Launch Event van het Jaar van de Aarde van de VN in Parijs. Op deze conferentie wordt wetenschap en politiek bijeengebracht om duurzame ideeën om te zetten in actie. DeltaSync sprak hier onder andere met Ruud Lubbers en de Chinese vice minister van Land en Grondstoffen.

Drs. Dirk van Genugten zet zich actief in voor duurzaam wonen. The Deltasync team of TU Delft students has designed a floating pavilion that suits well in the “Better City, Better Live” theme of the World Expo 2010. Great interest from the Expo organization and support from Shanghai’s sister city Rotterdam will promote the idea of a floating city, starting with this pavilion in 2010. The innovative design and the beauty of this multi dome shaped building shall attract visitors to experience the many (environmental) advantages of floating buildings. (more…)
